Public School??

public schoolKids can get a great free education as long as parents put in the work to find a great district and taking the steps to know that their children know that they care about what is going on in their lives. Public school is a great opportunity for kids to get a great education as long as parents are willing to commit to being an avid part of their child’s life by, knowing their friends, teaching them to stand up for what is right, encouraging them to get involved.

Although this is true of any schooling, it is especially important in public School. Parents have to make an effort to get involved in their children’s lives and know who they are hanging out with. If they monitor their friends they are able to see that they are hanging out with the right crowd. My parents made sure to do this; some of my fondest high school memories are of my mom taking myself and all of my school friends out to breakfast at 3 A.M. when I was 16. By doing this she knew what was going on in my life and all of my friends loved her. She showed me that she cared about my life.

By attending a public school it’s well-known kids will not have sheltered lives, like they would at a private school or homeschooling. This can be a negative, but it can also be a positive. Kids can learn how to stand up for what …

Biblical Foundations Essay, By Amber Brooke

biblical foundationThe foundations of a family are defined very differently in the bible then how the world views them. Today’s world has many different ideas on how a family is founded and what it looks like, many of which are not biblically sound. Their bible gives a pretty clear picture of the different positions that a father and mother have in a family, how children should behave and the role a church should play in the health of a family. This also includes spending time with each other and pouring into the lives of not everyone to grow them spiritually.

The father is the head of the household, they are to lead their children and protect them. Part of doing this is providing a strong example of what it means to follow Christ. By being open about their own personal walk with children and showing them how to worship, kids will be familiar with it and follow their example. This is the same with mothers, I grew up in a household where my mother was very open about her devotion and worship time, I was always welcome to join my mom, and so it was something natural for me to follow. This does not mean that parents can force children to believe in Christ, no one can make that choice for someone, but when they have that seed planted at a young age they are more likely to grow and set the child up for success. Wives are to support their …

Daniel 9:24-27, By Amber Brooke

DanielIn this chapter, it is one of the few scriptures in the bible that gives an actual time frame in the prophecy. In this Daniel is looking at the prophecy of Jeremiah, who said that Israel would be in bondage to the Babylonians for 70 years, which at this point are almost over. Daniel is praying and confessing the sin of the people, who have become very comfortable being in bondage to the Babylonians, and are not ready to be freed. The Angel Gabriel comes to shed light what is going to happen to the Jews, which is who the prophecy is about.

Daniel 9:24 says, “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place” “Seventy sevens, which is most likely referring to weeks in the sense of years, even though there are some scholars who do believe that this could be an infinite amount of time. I believe that it is in years, so to look at it as 490 years, are set for the Jews to bring righteousness to the Holy City. This time frame will be broken up, it does not all happen at once. So 490 years has been set aside for “your people and your holy city”, the people that this is referring to is the Jews, and the holy city is …

Human Trafficking Part 1, By Amber Brooke

Human TraffickingWhen you think of human trafficking, many people think of 3rd world countries on the other side of the earth.  However, the heartbreaking truth is this abomination is taking place in our very neighborhoods.  The people that we come into contact with on a daily basis could be either past survivors, current victims, or sadly potentially future victims of human trafficking.  It is an incredibly prosperous business for the traffickers, and they are unbelievably proficient at trapping someone unwillingly into the prison of human slavery. One reason this business has been so profitable is due to legislation which has penalized the trafficking victims more than the traffickers.  With the availability of unsuspecting victims and outdated legislation which inadequately punishes the predators, human trafficking as a business is very appealing to the criminal establishment.  To abolish human trafficking, there needs to be a combination of educational awareness and prevention for potential victims and their parents and tougher legislation with no Statute of Limitations against the perpetrators of human trafficking.  The purpose of this paper is to argue that human trafficking and sex slavery is not just a 3rd world problem but also very much a local problem and to establish the need for tougher legislation against the captors.

According to www.merriam-webster.com, the definition of Human Trafficking is: “organized criminal activity in which human beings are treated as possessions to be controlled and exploited (as by being forced into prostitution or involuntary labor)”.  Worldwide, the estimation for the number of …

Human Trafficking Part 2, By Amber Brooke

Human TraffickingWhile policies and tougher legislation are imperative to combat human trafficking, education is also essential in helping to eradicate this horrendous industry. It would be so satisfying if I could reach every family to educate how to protect their children against the predators of human trafficking; however, I do know this is not realistic.  It is still my hope that by writing this one paper – I can reach at least one person and educate them on human trafficking. The terrifying thing is that in the beginning a victim may not even be aware that they are being trafficked. For example, you meet a guy and he gives you a lot of attention, treats your great and makes you fall for him. You think everything is perfect until he starts mentally abusing you. Making you question yourself and feel less than good enough, that he is superior to you and that you could never do better than him. He may pressure you to do things you are not comfortable with, and he takes pictures or video, saying you are so very beautiful and he loves you so much.  He will then start to pimp you out. They are experts at manipulating and luring you into the trap of the human sex slave world.

Some other signs to look for of someone who may be a victim of human trafficking, according to www.michiganabolitionistproject.com are:  evidence of being easily controlled, inability to move or leave job, being a runaway or homeless youth,

The Failure of the International Olympic Committee, By Celeste Elise

Olympics I love diamonds.  Not the diamond I wear on my finger, but the diamond I run after hitting a softball thrown going 60 miles an hour.   This is where I spent a great deal of my childhood and teen years.  My best friends were my teammates, my dad was one of the coaches and my mom was the official scorekeeper and unofficial head cheerleader.  I remember waking up at 3:00 am, along with my mom, sisters and often times teammates, to watch our US Women’s Softball team dominate in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.  My love for diamonds, along with thousands of other girls in the United States, led to a dream of representing my country on the Olympic Softball Team and bringing home the gold.   These dreams were shattered when it was announced the following year that Women’s softball was being dropped from the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which states gender equality is a priority for the organization, has failed females with their decision to remove softball from the Summer Olympics.  This decision is popularly believed to be, in large part, due to the dominance of the United States Women’s softball team.  I still love diamonds, I still run around them after hitting a softball thrown at me going 60 miles an hour, and I still have a dream to, one day, bring home gold for my country.

The  IOC’s mission statement says, “The Olympic Charter states that one of the roles of the …
